Sweet hand fed babies looking for a home.

All babies listed here are hand-fed, tame, and well socialized. Our babies are pulled from the nest for hand feeding between 7 and 15 days of age. We use Zupreem Embrace Plus hand feeding formula for all babies mixed with Gerber baby foods (fruit and vegetable varieties). We find that the Gerber baby foods work wonders on hatchlings. The Gerber baby foods boost growth rate, increase strength, and greatly improve feather quality. Occasionally, we will also add peanut butter for those babies that benefit from a little extra fat in their diets. When our babies begin to grow pin feathers, we offer them adult foods. This does not make them wean faster, but tends to make them less picky eaters later on. They will eat any type of fruit or veggie that we feed them. Typical foods we feed our babies include corn, sweet peas, green beans, carrots, fresh spinach, kale, and lettuce, hot peppers, broccoli, cooked sweet potato, coconut, oranges, apples, pineapple, papaya, mango, honeydew, cantaloupe, all types of berries and grapes, just to name some. We cook for the birds too! We steam rice, cook pasta noodles and bean mixes, and bake our own birdie bread. We also feed Zupreem weaning pellets and monkey biscuits to our weaning babies, soaked in either warm water or fruit juice. Seed is not given until they are almost weaned. We will keep the babies for at least one week after their last hand feeding to ensure the baby is fully weaned before it is to go to its new home. During this extra week, the baby is weighed each day at the same time, if the baby maintains its weight, the baby is deemed fully weaned. Only at that time, and not before, will the baby be able to go to its new home.

As very young babies, they are kept warm in one of our brooders at a safe temperature. When they have feathered out, they graduate to a weaning cage where they learn to climb, play with toys, and they continue to be handfed and experiment with adult foods. Our babies are handled at every feeding, meaning we hold them, touch, and pet them everywhere so that they are not afraid of hands and they learn to love human attention. All of our babies are taught to step up onto your finger, and step down onto a perch or play gym before the baby goes to its new home. Every baby we raise must become an expert at flight before we clip their wings, no exceptions. We are firm believers in the benefits that the babies reap if they are allowed to fully fledge; they become agile, confident adults when allowed to become expert flyers.

Most of the species we breed will take between three to four months to fully wean. We can estimate when your baby might wean, but we cannot give you an exact weaning date, please keep this in mind. We know you are anxious to bring your baby home, but we must make sure the baby is fully weaned before this can happen. Please read our Policies page before you decide on a particular baby and send us a deposit.

We ship anywhere in the continental US, Alaska and Hawaii, only after your baby is fully weaned, and weather permitting. We will also hand deliver around the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Prices are for the bird only, shipping is additional. Discounts are possible on multiple birds. You may reserve a bird by deposit only. Please read our Policies page for more information.
